A wide variety of processes take place in coal grinding plants, which are controlled safely and economically with the help of ENOTEC products. Whether in the furnace, where hot gases are generated to dry the coal, or in the dust silo, where the fine coal dust is stored: with ENOTEC products, you can safely control and perfectly regulate your system. ENOTEC products also offer a wide range of applications in various incineration plants, as they can be used in flue gas temperatures of up to 1400 °C, with high dust loads and in corrosive or reducing exhaust gases. The spectrum ranges from coal and gas-fired power stations, waste incineration plants, shipbuilding, refineries and crematoria to cement and steel works and the chemical industry. Coal that has been mined is not suitable to be fed directly into a furnace due to its form and properties (especially the moisture content). It must therefore be homogenized, dried and ground beforehand. In coal grinding plants, lignite or hard coal is ground into coal dust. This pulverized coal is used in a wide variety of process engineering systems.

When grinding coal, oxygen (O<sub>2</sub>) and carbon monoxide (CO) must be measured, as the fine coal dust can quickly lead to dust explosions. The safe operation of a coal grinding plant can only be guaranteed if the oxygen content is reduced. The two other parameters of an explosion, i.e. fuel and heat, cannot be reduced in this case.

Depending on the material, an O<sub>2</sub> content < 10 % by volume is required, which is achieved by diluting the air with water vapour or flue gas. If the air is diluted with water vapour, the O<sub>2</sub> value cannot be determined extractively, as the water in the wet sample gas condenses out in this measurement method and the O<sub>2</sub> value measured is therefore too high.

Therefore, only an in-situ measurement is suitable here.

Measuring points of the coal grinding plant:

COMTEC 6000 after hot gas generator: O2 and COe are measured here in order to be able to control the hot gas generator economically with regard to the fuel-air mixture. The combustion is controlled with the O2 content. The COe value serves as a backup value.

SILOTEC 8000 in the dust silo: InSitu O2 and COe measurement for glowing ember detection. The new self-monitoring SILOTEC probe enables fast, reliable and safe measurement in potentially explosive areas (Zone 20). And all without the need for a maintenance-intensive and slow extractive analysis system.

COMTEC 6000 after bag filter before induced draught: On the one hand, the filter is monitored with the measuring point after the bag filter. If the COe content is too high, there is a risk of a smouldering fire in the filter. Secondly, just before the induced draught and with negative pressure conditions, it can be ensured that the entire system is operated inert. If the O2 value here is below 10 % by volume, it exists in the entire system.

OXITEC 5000 at the flue: The O2 value at the chimney is required as the oxygen reference value for TA-Luft (also QAL1 certified according to DIN EN 15267).
