Silos for storing coal dust and coal bunkers are used in numerous branches of industry. There is always a risk of an explosive dust atmosphere, which must be monitored. This is where the self-monitoring SILOTEC 8000 comes into play, which was specially developed for rapid gas analysis in ATEX Zone 20 silos. In addition, ENOTEC offers products for a wide range of applications, such as in incineration plants at flue gas temperatures of up to 1400 °C, with high dust loads and in corrosive or reducing exhaust gases.

Example of a possible application in a coal dust silo in a coal grinding plant:

The coal dust is fed from the separators into a silo. The SILOTEC 8000 self-monitoring measurement system is installed on the silo roof.

SILOTEC 8000 enables the fast, reliable and therefore safe analysis of oxygen, carbon monoxide and methane in silos with ATEX zone 20 and other potentially explosive dust atmospheres. The simultaneous measurement of O2 and COe enables the detection of smouldering fires and thus monitors the quality of inertization.

The system is completely maintenance-free with IP protection class 65 for easy installation on silo roofs. The sampling probe is certified for dust Ex zone 20 and the GRP housing, which is located outside on the silo roof, for dust Ex zone 22. The electronics are mounted in a non-Ex zone. Due to the fast in-situ measurement, there is no need to install a maintenance-intensive and slower extractive analysis system.
